Distant Parent

I didn’t realize you wanted to be a reason for pain

a reason for tears and fires

that would train the pained one to be defiant, resistant,

cuz the hurt learn defense techniques

Never realized you hoped to be the reason she

loved distant and unsure

resisted connection

to protect her from pain

that you taught her from early years

passing the torch of suffering

I didn’t realize you were so heartless

to not see the pain you’d be painting onto her surface
